Drone Alliance Europe Chairs First Stakeholder Delegation at JARUS Plenary Meeting

Director of Ops Roger Murry will lead call for experts to support JARUS

20 April 2016 – Brussels, Belgium – Last week Drone Alliance Europe (DAE) led the first delegation of stakeholders to participate in the JARUS Plenary Meeting, hosted in Madrid by Spain’s Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea. DAE Director of Operations Roger Murry is the inaugural Chair of the JARUS Stakeholder Consultative Body (SCB).

JARUS is the collaborative effort of 44 national aviation authorities to draft a single set of recommendations for the safe certification and integration of drones.  The SCB represents the full range of airspace users around the globe, from drone technology leaders small and large to pilots, airlines, and standards bodies.

Roger Murry said: “We were honored to attend the JARUS Plenary Meeting for the first time, and are especially grateful to our hosts AESA and Director Isabel Maestre. JARUS is making great progress in crafting a regulatory framework that will both ensure safety and spur growth of advanced drone operations around the world. The focus of the SCB now is to help JARUS access experts critical to their work, from detect and avoid to UTM to drone design, production, and commercial operations. We encourage broad interest in these Calls for Experts.”

DAE Executive Director Andrew Charlton said: “We are pleased with how the Drone Alliance Europe has taken off since we launched earlier this year, and we believe the stakeholder community selecting us to manage engagement with JARUS is an indicator of the success we have already had. The technical work of JARUS is being matched with our public and political outreach. The Alliance is engaging with the European public and political leaders to move toward our bold vision for Europe’s drone industry.”

About Drone Alliance Europe: DAE was formed earlier this year by Altitude Angel, Amazon Prime Air, Delft Aerial Robotics, ParaZero, and Unifly.  The goal of the group is to assist European regulators and policymakers as they craft drone legislation and regulations. The Alliance seeks a system with strong public support that allows for safe and flexible beyond visual line of sight autonomous operations across Europe.
